Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), a Wien Holding company, stages top-class opera and musical productions in its four historic Viennese theatres - Raimund Theater, Ronacher, Theater an der Wien and Kammeroper. Every year, up to 600,000 people attend the performances in the four theatres, of which around 500,000 attend the long-run musical productions in the Raimund Theatre and Ronacher. This makes Vereinigte Bühnen Wien one of the largest multi-discipline theatre companies in Europe. 

In January 2006, the Theater an der Wien - previously a musical theatre - was reopened as the City of Vienna's new opera house and since then has presented itself as a year-round stage opera house that is unique in the German-speaking world. The programme includes operas from the Baroque to the modern era and offers opera audiences a new premiere every month at the highest artistic level. After two years of fundamental renovation, the opera house will shine in new splendour in autumn 2024. Since the start of the 2012/13 season, the Theater an der Wien has also hosted the Vienna Chamber Opera.
