After the great success of CATS, they are presenting another musical world hit by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. A spectacular new production by legendary producer Cameron Mackintosh (MARY POPPINS, MISS SAIGON),  Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will be brought to the Raimund Theater in spring 2024 by Artistic Director Christian Struppeck, for the first time in German-speaking countries. Production and principals were presented at a press conference today.

This new production  has already enjoyed sensational sell out success in Great Britain, the USA, and Australia at the iconic Sydney Opera House. The European premiere will take place in Vienna in March 2024.

A first-class cast for an extraordinary musical

Vereinigte Bühnen Wien are delighted to have found a wonderful cast for this extraordinary musical: Anton Zetterholm - known from numerous musical productions and TV shows (including ELISABETH, TANZ DER VAMPIRE, "Got to Dance" / Pro 7) - returns to Vienna in the title role of " The Phantom" after many stints on international stages. Lisanne Clémence Veeneman (e.g. LES MISÉRABLES) will be appearing at the VBW for the first time, making her Vienna debut as "Christine Daaé". Roy Goldman (e.g. MISS SAIGON, DER GLÖCKNER VON NOTRE DAME), who until recently was seen at the Ronacher as "Phoebus de Martin", is "Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny". The Paris Opera directors, "Monsieur André" and "Monsieur Firmin", are played by Rob Pelzer (MOZART!, THE PRODUCERS, among others) and Thomas Sigwald, known from musicals, operettas, films and television. Milica Jovanović (MARY POPPINS, SCHIKANDER, LOVE NEVER DIES) returns to the Raimund Theater as opera diva "Carlotta Giudicelli". Patricia Nessy (VBW roles include ELISABETH), best known from numerous productions in opera, operetta and musicals, will be on play the role of "Madame Giry". Greg Castiglioni, who has already performed this role in many PHANTOM productions, including the the West End, will appear as "Ubaldo Piangi". Laura May Croucher (e.g. DANCE OF THE VAMPIRE, MARY POPPINS) makes her VBW debut as "Meg Giry".

  • "Ich bin begeistert, meine neue Inszenierung von DAS PHANTOM DER OPER dem Wiener Publikum im Raimund Theater vorzustellen. Es ist über 10 Jahre her, dass ich diese neue Produktion kreiert habe, und sie hat bisher alle Rekorde in Großbritannien, in Amerika und zuletzt in Australien gebrochen. Aber diese Neuproduktion in Wien wird etwas Besonderes sein. Zum ersten Mal seit der Uraufführung bringe ich mein gesamtes Kreativteam zusammen, damit wir etwas noch Spektakuläreres für das Wiener Publikum auf die Beine stellen können. Wien ist seit fast vier Jahrzehnten Teil meines Theaterlebens, und in dieser Zeit haben meine Inszenierungen von CATS, LES MISÉRABLES, der Originalproduktion von DAS PHANTOM DER OPER und natürlich in jüngerer Zeit MARY POPPINS und MISS SAIGON in Ihrer wunderschönen Stadt fantastische Erfolge gefeiert. Es ist aufregend, dass wir im nächsten März alle wieder hier sein werden, um die triumphale Rückkehr des „Phantoms“ zu feiern.“
